San Francisco to Oceanside, California
Red Line
The coast South of San Francisco Bay is a bit less daunting than that north, but still offers relatively few harbors until one is south of Point Conception.  (Pt. Conception is between 4 and 5 on the map.)  Point Conception also marks the start of true southern California weather with generally benign weather, warmer conditions, and lighter winds.  Between Monterey and San Simeon there are no harbors of refuge, so this is a long 80 mile day, that wants good weather.  Point Conception can create harsh weather, so a good forecast is also needed for that passage.  After that, the weather is much more predictable...pretty much what you see is what you get.  California dreamin'.
