Legacy is For Sale!
1999 Saga 43 from Saga Yachts -- Designed by Bob Perry

This is your opportunity to purchase a well found, well equipped, well maintained and fully functional cruising yacht.  Legacy is no 'marina queen' nor has she been sitting at a dock prior to sale; she is out cruising right now so you know that her systems are getting exercised and maintained to keep them in top shape.  Legacy is turnkey-ready to take you anywhere in the world you want to go.

Legacy has been our home afloat for the last eight seasons and has carried us from Alaska to Mexico, Central America, Ecuador, through the Panama Canal to the Bahamas and back Mazatlan, Mexico where we are cruising now.  Most years she has been hauled out and dry stored for 4-5 months (hurricane season) so has had the advantage of being decommissioned and then recommissioned each year.  This means that all of her systems have received regular checks and maintenance.  All of her running rigging is removed each year and is cleaned, checked, reversed, and replaced as needed.

We purchased Legacy new through Discovery Yachts of Seattle from Saga Yachts in Ste. Catherine's, Ontario, Canada.  She was delivered to Seattle on Christmas Eve, 1999, though she is a "2000" model year. Prior to departing on our cruise in 2003 we added a radar arch, two small solar panels, Ample Power Genie gen set, Spectra Newport 400 watermaker and an Espar D10W heating system (for those cold northern nights).  Since then she has gained three additional large solar panels integrated into the radar arch, an Icom M802 SSB/ham radio, AIS, man-overboard alarm system, enlarged fuel tanks, additional keel weight, and many more small improvements.

Legacy is not perfect.  She has been an actively cruised boat and so has dings in the woodwork, minor wear and tear, and other signs of 'experience.'  She has however received regular cosmetic repairs to woodwork and gelcoat, and has had her bootstripe repainted to keep up appearances.  Through the years we have made many small custom tweeks to improve Legacy.  We've opened up additional underfloor storage, included organizers in storage lockers, added lights and fans for comfort and many other items too small and too numerous to mention.

Legacy has a very comfortable layout for two to four people, and occasional guests.  From the spacious cockpit, a set of five companionway steps brings you to the main salon.  Visitors frequently comment on the open feel of Legacy's layout and the warmth of the cherry woodwork.  From the companionway, the large galley is to starboard, and the door to the aft cabin is to port.  Just forward of the aft cabin door is the generously-sized and conveniently-located head.  Moving forward, the main salon has two straight settees with high-quality and very durable tan faux leather upholstery (new 2010), and a fold-down cherry table with two leaves.  With both leaves extended, six people can comfortably dine in the main salon.  Both settees have permanently installed leecloths and make very comfortable sea berths.  At the aft end of the starboard settee is the nav station, with chart table, electrical panel, and electronics control station.  Just forward of the main salon is the owner's stateroom with a pullman berth (custom Hand-Crafted Mattress) to port and storage to starboard, as well as storage under the berth.  Finally, the forepeak is a wonderful workshop with tool storage, workbench, and vise.

We can tell you what a great sailing boat this is, but you might have reason to believe that we'd be biased.  A great source for more information about Saga Yachts, and a great place to get questions answered about these boats is the Saga Owners group on Yahoo.  You don't have to be a member to subscribe and the archives are open to all.

Okay, so you've looked over all the information here and decided Legacy might be perfect for you, but now you want to see her personally.  Legacy is on the hard in Mazatlan, Mexico.  Legacy will be stored on the hard summer and relaunched in the fall.  We are offering a "buyer's inconvenience incentive" for those coming to see Legacy from beyond the immediate area. If you come see her AND buy her, we will reduce the price by the cost of coach airfare for one person and one night's moderately-priced lodging.  So if you are serious, you have no excuse not to move quickly.  Contact us with your questions or for more information.

Legacy was surveyed for insurance valuation and condition in October 2010.  The replacement cost for Legacy was estimated at $465,000.  Comparables were valued at between $275,000 and $299,000.  You can read the survey for yourself.  We split the difference when setting the asking price.

Asking Price -- $270,000 -- Price Reduced
